What makes women such people pleasers? Even such strong and independent women as Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters do things they know they don’t want to do, things they know will make them unhappy, just to please others. A while back, Whoopi and Barbara talked about their marriages on The View, about knowing it’s wrong and doing it anyway. What is that? Why are we just trying to be nice at our own expense? Why can’t we just say no? Barbara said you said no so many times you finally just give in and say yes and then they both said you spend all this money and there’s all these people involved and you go ahead and do it anyway… Whoopi said her mom told her there’s a car waiting out back just go get in it, you don’t have to do this… Does any woman who has her own money, career, independent sense of self even need to get married? I guess if it’s that starry eyed utopian ideal when you’re young and want to make babies and you’re making a life and think you’ll be growing together – but if you had the choice, if you could choose to do whatever you wanted, would you get married?
Cameron Diaz hasn’t and was very vocal about her opinions… she didn’t appear to feel any need to please others or a man by marrying.. She said, and I’m paraphrasing here, she thinks that we expect too much from one man, that one man should not be expected to be responsible for our happiness and fulfill all of our expectations at all times. Do we expect too much of men, or do they expect too much of us?
